Affiliate Disclosure
Referral shares are the only income this site has. Walk links carry a code tied to GuruWalk or freetour.com, and when a reader books a walk and tips the guide, the platform pays this site a share of that tip. Booking through a link costs the reader nothing extra. Placement is not for sale, and no operator has been asked to pay for a better one. The Prater and the Naschmarkt cost nothing whether anyone clicks or not.
How This Site Gets Paid
Every walk link on these pages leads to GuruWalk or freetour.com, the two platforms that host the listings and handle the bookings. This site runs none of the walks and employs no guides. Its one commercial function is the referral code: when a booking that began at a link here ends in a tip, the platform sends this site a portion. All twelve walks are free to reserve, so the code cannot change a price, because there is no price to change.
Right now, walk links are the only affiliate links on this site. A hotel section might arrive later, but nothing hotel related is live yet. No page points to a marketplace selling fixed-price tours, and no paid tour platform is named or linked anywhere here.
All twelve walks work on a pay what you want basis, led by local guides and small operators listed on GuruWalk and freetour.com. Each link, including every one in the free walking tours directory, carries a referral code, and that code adds nothing to anyone's costs. There are no display ads on any page, no sponsored posts, and no reviews that were paid for. If some other commercial arrangement ever starts, it will be named here and in the footer before the first link goes live.
What Makes Money Here, And What Doesn't
Most of a Vienna trip earns this site nothing. The squares, the public gardens, the viewpoints and the palace forecourts sit in open civic space and charge nobody. The Prater park is free to walk daily, while the rides in the Wurstelprater carry their own tickets. A neighbourhood like the Naschmarkt wandered alone pays no one a cent. The only things that could earn a referral here are the GuruWalk and freetour.com walks listed in the directory.
Numbers attached to a walk appear exactly as its platform publishes them, with no rounding into slogans. The most reviewed walk here has 6,036 reviews on GuruWalk, while the smallest listing carries two. GuruWalk ratings across this roster run from 3.79 to 5 out of five, and the single freetour.com walk shows 8.5 on that platform's own ten point scale. Those spreads are left as they are, because a decision built on straight figures is the only kind that holds up.
What Money Cannot Buy Here
- Entry rules for the roster. A walk earns a page here only if booking costs nothing on GuruWalk or freetour.com and an independent local guide runs it. Scores and totals are copied across without rounding or tidying. Twelve walks across four categories made it through that filter.
- No paid placement. Guides and operators cannot buy a higher spot, and no such offer has gone out to anyone. Position within a category follows what each walk's own page shows, ratings and review totals, so a quieter walk with stronger numbers can outrank a famous one.
- Same treatment at any size. The # 1 free tour in Vienna! carries 4.9 across 5,854 reviews on GuruWalk; Bravo!'s Free Walking Tour of Vienna carries a 5 across 2. Both print exactly as published, and a walk with no reviews yet shows no score rather than an invented one.
- No prices, because there are none. Not one walk carries a price tag: each is free to reserve on GuruWalk or freetour.com, and the guide lives on the tip alone. One walk does include palace admission, the Hidden Gems tour with Palace Auersperg entry, and that inclusion is flagged on its listing rather than buried.
- Free sights pay nothing. The Prater's Hauptallee, churches that charge no admission, Naschmarkt's walk-through lanes, the city's public parks. Not one of them pays this site a cent, and each still gets written up wherever it beats a guided walk.
Figures You Can Check
Every figure here comes from the platform hosting the walk, scale stated. GuruWalk scores out of 5, and the roster spans 3.79 across 14 reviews for Vienna 1900 up to 5 across 2 for the Free Walking Tour of Vienna. The lone freetour.com walk, Prime Tours' evening walk, carries 8.5 out of 10 across 1,985 reviews. No number gets rounded to flatter a guide.
No walk here carries a price, because none has one. All twelve reserve free on a pay-what-you-want basis, and whatever you hand the guide at the end goes to that guide alone. Duration is the only figure attached to each walk, taken from its own page on GuruWalk or freetour.com. Most run 2 hours; Mirko's walk through the center adds 15 minutes, and the Hidden Gems Free Tour runs 2 hours and 30 minutes with Palace Auersperg admission included.
Booking Without This Site
Every reservation happens on the guide's own ground. Paste a walk's title into GuruWalk or freetour.com and you book with the operator directly, on identical terms to anything a link from here would give you. The guides and the FAQ work as plain research whether or not a single link gets clicked, so read them, borrow them, plan your days.
Happy to skip us entirely? Fine. Every walk here sits on GuruWalk, or on freetour.com for the evening tour, and you can book straight through those platforms. The about page covers how this site earns, and the contact page takes questions about any guide or meeting point. Going direct costs you nothing extra.
